To create a new event type:

1. Visit the `Event Types` page
2. Click the `Create event type` button
3. Enter a unique name
4. *Optionally enter a description*
5. *Optionally select a parent event type*

The parent event type is mainly used in the grafana datasource, event configuration can still have parents with a different event type but some features in the grafana datasource will not work as expected.
