This page explains how to **install and configure a failover collector** for an existing collector.

## Step 1: Install the failover collector

1. Follow the standard steps to [install a collector](docId\:Iv4_SD56TdxcqKRKCj4kv) on the target machine.
2. Complete the **initial registration** so that the collector appears in the Historian.

## Step 2: Configure failover

1. Go to the **Collectors** page in the Historian.
2. Select the collector you want to configure failover for.
3. Toggle the **Failover** switch.
4. A new panel called **Failover Settings** will appear under the **Settings** tab.
5. Configure the failover collector using the [collector failover settings](docId\:EFzfcl9_k82IlrGmPzKSj).

### Notes

- Make sure the failover collector is installed on a separate machine from the primary collector for redundancy.
- Verify that the failover collector has network access to the Historian and the same configuration as the primary collector where needed.
