Downtime reason tree
What is a downtime reason tree?
A reason tree is a structured, hierarchical presentation of downtime reasons for operators. It organises the full list of reasons into a navigable tree so that operators can quickly find the correct reason during or after a stop, without having to scroll through a flat list.

Why does it matter?
An unstructured list of 50 reasons is slow to navigate and leads to inconsistent classification. A well-designed tree guides the operator to the right reason in two or three clicks. Faster classification means fewer unclassified events at the end of a shift, and more consistent data across operators and shifts.
How does it fit in the system?
A reason tree is a view over the existing reasons. It does not create new reasons; it organises the ones already configured. Each piece of equipment is assigned a specific reason tree in the Equipment Manager. Different lines or equipment types can have different trees, so operators only see reasons that are relevant to their context. The tree is what appears on screen when an operator is prompted to classify a downtime event.
Example
Line 3 has a reason tree with three top-level groups: Mechanical, Electrical, and Material. Under Material sits Material and input shortage. When the system detects a stop on line 3 and prompts the operator, they open Material, see two options, and select input shortage in two clicks. An operator on a packing line sees a completely different tree with reasons relevant to welding equipment.
