Line Monitoring
Introduction
In this how-to guide, we will describe how to build a Grafana dashboard for monitoring production lines in real time. This is:
- Line overview dashboard A real-time dashboard for floor operators and shift leads, showing input tank levels, mixer status and storage tank state across all production lines simultaneously.

Line Overview Dashboard
The Line Overview Dashboard gives a single-screen view of the entire production line, from input tanks through the mixer to storage tanks. It introduces panel repetition by variable, where one panel definition automatically renders once per production line. It also covers the Filter fields by name and Rename by regex transformation pattern, which is essential whenever a query returns data for multiple assets at once and each repeated panel copy needs to isolate its own slice of that data.
Prerequisites
Make sure you have the following prepared:
- An instance of Factry Historian. If you do not have an instance of Factry Historian at your disposal, you can run it locally using our Docker setup guideDocker setup guide.
- Data from Faketory loaded as measurements. Consult the Docker setup guideDocker setup guide or the FaketoryFaketory pages for more information.
- A configured Faketory Asset treeAsset tree and associated EventsEvents.
- Installed and configured Factry Historian Datasource plugin for GrafanaFactry Historian Datasource plugin for Grafana.
We recommend loading all data for the Faketory in a separate organization in Factry Historian and configuring the datasource plugin against this organization.
